An earth-friendly Mother’s Day gift guide featuring 8 ideas for all the moms in your life, like fair trade chocolate, ethically made bags, CBD grown on a small sustainable farm, organic wine, and more!
Maybe you’re a mom (I’m not), maybe you have a mom (I do), maybe you have friends, siblings, and family who are moms (yes, yes, yes), or maybe you have a special mother figure in your life who needs a little extra love (always).
In any event, I’ve rounded up a few gift ideas that have been mom-approved and are made by companies that I use and love in my own home on a daily basis. As usual, I’m highlighting some earth-friendly, small farmer-centered, sustainable options because I firmly believe that we can celebrate the people in our lives we love the most while still being kind to the planet.

For the Dark Chocolate Loving Mom
Splurge on the good stuff for mom, would ‘ya? Alter Eco just dropped a new line of their superdark chocolate collection, and it’s probably the best extreme dark chocolate I’ve ever had- so, so cocoa forward, but still smooth and rich without becoming unpleasantly bitter. The truffles are out of this world!
For the Coffee Obsessed Mom
I’m not one for excess gadgets in the kitchen, but if your mom is a fan of lattes, cappuccinos, hot chocolate, or just some serious foam on top of her hot drinks, you need to upgrade her to this electric frother. It’s a game.changer. Pair it with a bag of my favorite fair trade + organic coffee from Equal Exchange!
For Sustainable Fashion Loving Mom
Instead of a new diaper bag, buy a young mom in your life a gorgeous bag that will last a lifetime, from diapers, to play dates, to date night out and beyond. I love this Everlane bag, and while I’ve never stashed diapers in it, I could totally see myself doing so if a baby crosses my path anytime in the near future. If you’re more of a backpack carrying mom, I love these ones, too!
For the Mama Who Needs a Little Self Care
Motherhood is stressful…get mom something that will help her body manage stress! Luce Farm’s Hemp Balm is my go-to for dry hands, lips, or even as an overnight face moisturizer. It smells like chocolate thanks to cocoa butter, and works to reduce pain and inflammation anywhere that needs it. We’re also huge fans of their hemp honey (it’s great in matcha!), or just their sublingual drops to tuck into a bag and take everywhere!
For the Sustainable/Organic Wine Loving Mom
A few years ago I stopped drinking wine entirely when I learned what’s really in a bottle of most of the wine found on the market. Trust me when I say, it’s not pretty. Then, this year, Thrive Market launched their line of organic + sustainable wines, and I was back on the wine train. I love their curated cases of wine, and how transparent they are about their farming practices and commitment to quality wine. Use this link to get a free 30-day membership on Thrive (and save 25% off your first order!). Gifting a membership to Thrive Market for your mom would also be such a thoughtful idea, even if she isn’t into wine!
Just Because You Love Your Mom
These tiny, customizable necklaces are so great for any mama! You can customize them with as many little tags as you want (each with the initials of her babies, maybe?), and everything made by ABLE is handmade by women in Nashville, TN. I own and love several pieces of their jewelry, and think the mini tag necklace is SO cute!
For the Local Produce Loving Mama
If your mom loves cooking and supporting local farmers, gift her a farm share (aka a CSA) to a local farm for the summer! Never heard of a CSA? It stands for Community Supported Agriculture, and is a way to both support your local farmers with much needed income at the beginning of the season, and to get a guaranteed delivery of produce every week for the entire summer! Usually, we find CSAs/farm shares to be more affordable per week than actually buying produce at the grocery store, and is a fun way to experiment with what’s in season every week. Many farms also offer eggs, cut flowers, and lots of options for how much you want delivered each week. Here are a few farms in Massachusetts that we love, but just search ‘your state + CSA’ and see if you can find a farm near you!
Next Barn Over in Hadley, MA. Boston and Worcester pick-ups (as well as local, on-farm pick-ups multiple days a week).
Mountain View Farm in Easthampton, MA. Options to pick up on-farm or in NYC!
Red Fire Farm In Montague, MA. They have pick-up options for the Western MA, Boston, and Worcester areas, and have tooooons of add-ons like meat, eggs, flowers, mushrooms, bread, etc. They also have a sliding payment scale to make it more affordable for lower-income families, and the option to pay more if you’re able, so you can help out said lower income families with your purchase! We love Red Fire!
Atlas Farm Market Share Membership in South Deerfield, MA. This is the only farm that has a physical location instead of a delivery service, so you’d have to either live near South Deerfield, or be able to get to the Copley Farmer’s Market in Boston to spend your money. Your market share membership offers you a premium on everything as well as weekly discounts, and is used like a gift card so you can choose whatever you’d like to buy instead of getting a weekly delivery.
If you’re in MA, I love this resource for finding sustainable/organic farms across the state!
For the Mom with a Newborn
New mom’s need lots of love + support, and my favorite way to express my love is through food (clearly). Here are a few recipes that I’ve made for the new moms in my life that have always gotten rave reviews in those early days where it’s a challenge to even find time to feed yourself.
Blueberry Oatmeal Banana Bread
Homemade Hummus + lots of cut veggies for dipping
Enchiladas. Either these Salsa Verde ones or these Butternut Squash ones, assembled, unbaked, wrapped in foil, and with instructions for baking written right on it.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there making the most with what they have! None of us would be here without you!
