A quick, easy, 5-ingredient green smoothie loaded with greens that can be thrown together in two minutes flat. This is my go-to green smoothie recipe for a refreshing, produce-loaded snack or meal on the go.
Spring is finally in the air which means my body is shouting from the rooftops:
BRING ON THE COLD FOODS!!!
It’s so funny, once you slow down and tune into what your body is really asking you for, how clearly aligned it is with the changing seasons. Just a few weeks ago I found myself unable to finish a salad for lunch because it was cold out and I was cold and….salad just wasn’t doing anything for my tastebuds. And, to be clear, it was a salad loaded with flavors and textures that I adore.
Now, after months of wanting nothing but warm drinks and hearty meals, I find myself daydreaming about iced coffee and craving the cold, fruity, refreshing flavor of green smoothies, salads, and lighter meals.
Since I’m all about listening to what my body is asking for, today I’m sharing my go-to green smoothie recipe with you. It’s the one I make consistently, when I’m craving a green smoothie. Nothing extra fancy, no special powders or expensive add-ins, just five basic ingredients that I almost always have in the house. Once you make it a few times you’ll realize you barely even need to measure anything, and can just grab ingredients by the handful.
To make this smoothie you’ll need:
Frozen Mango for it’s coldness + sweetness. Pro tip: Whole Foods sells giant bags of frozen organic mango, and you can also stock up on mangoes when they’re on sale and freeze in a single layer on a sheet pan before transferring to a freezer-safe container.
Ripe Banana (fresh or frozen!) for sweetness and creaminess. Frozen banana makes it extra thick, but fresh works well, too, if that’s all you have! The frozen mango will still ensure it’s nice and cold.
Baby Kale or Spinach for a bright green color and a full serving of veggies in every smoothie. Spinach adds virtually no flavor at all to this smoothie, while kale lends a slightly earthier, noticeably green flavor that I personally love. Using baby kale or baby spinach ensures they blend easily and have a more mild flavor than their adult counterparts, regardless of which one you choose.
Hemp Seeds for healthy fat, protein, fiber, creaminess. These also help to make the smoothie a little more filling and satisfying that one made with just fruit + greens.
Water to help thin out the smoothie and make it extra refreshing. Any unsweetened milk of choice works, too, but I find it to be enjoyable (and cheaper!) to make it with just water.
That’s it! Everything gets dumped into a blender and mixed until completely smooth, in about 2 minutes flat.
We love drinking this smoothie for an easy breakfast on the go, an afternoon snack, or even as a light dinner on busy days when we’re just not really craving much of anything but need to eat something.
Pro tip: if you use all frozen fruit and cut the liquid in half, you can even eat this as a thick smoothie bowl with toppings like granola, nut butter, or more fruit!

My Go-To Green Smoothie
Time: 2 minutes
Serves: 1
Ingredients:
- 1 cup frozen mango chunks
- 1/2 large ripe banana (fresh or frozen- use frozen for a thicker, creamier smoothie)
- 2 cups baby kale or spinach, tightly packed (this is about 2 big handfuls)
- 2 Tablespoons raw hemp seeds (also called hemp hearts)
- 1 cup cold water
Instructions:
- Place all ingredients into a high-powered blender and blend on high until completely smooth (30-60 seconds). Pour into a glass, stick a straw in it, and enjoy!
- This smoothie is best on the day it’s made, and if you plan to make it in the morning to drink later in the day, I recommend storing in an insulated bottle (even a large travel coffee mug works well!) or in a sealed jar in the fridge
