Um. Guys. What happened to September?
Wasn’t it just summer?
Don’t I still have a solid six months until 2020?
Is there a pause button I can press somewhere out there just so I can let my brain have time to catch up with the seasons?
This month we’ve picked way (way, way) too many apples, spent a few weekends visiting family, and…that’s it? I seriously don’t know what happened to September.
Did I even do anything worthy of posting on the internet?
I DON’T KNOW.
Am I going to write about it anyway?
YOU BETCHA.
So, without further ado, here are all the things that got me excited this month. If the speed at which it passed is any indication of how the remainder of the year will go, I’m guessing I will wake up tomorrow and it’s already January 1st and I’ll be absolutely freaking out about it.
Please, send that pause button my way if you’ve been using it.

BREVILLE MILK FROTHER
This month I did do one thing a little out of the ordinary: I drove to a random stranger’s house and purchased a used kitchen appliance. It was weird, but it was also amazing. I’ve been eyeing the breville milk frother forever, as I am seriously in love with frothy drinks, but I just couldn’t justify the purchase of another brand new appliance (not just for the price, but the styrofoam packaging, travel miles, lack of countertop space in my kitchen, etc) solely for the purpose of adding frothy milk to my morning bevs.
But then I discovered facebook marketplace and found one a few towns over for $35 dollars, and I’ve literally used it 2+ times a day since. It’s every bit as wonderful as I hoped it would be, and I love that I saved someone’s unused appliance from going to the landfill. If you’re into frothy drinks (lattes, cappuccinos, hot chocolate- anything, really) YOU NEED THIS MILK FROTHER IN YOUR LIFE.
Maybe check to see if someone near you is selling it for cheap before buying a brand new one? I promise, it’s not as scary as I thought it would be to drive to a stranger’s house and buy their unwanted stuff.
CELERY JUICE
Okay, I know the health-crazed corner of the internet has been freaking out about celery juice for the past year or so, but I’m here to tell you: it’s not that tasty. Nor is it going to cure whatever ailment- real or imagined by society- you might be feeling pressured to get rid of.
September is celery season here in Massachusetts, so this month I brought home serval large, leafy, bright green stalks from the farmer’s market for the sole reason that it just looked so beautiful. I had no intentions of juicing the stuff. I mean, imagine snacking on raw celery. Now, liquify it and drink a big cup of it? No thanks.
But…then I did just that. Except, I added a few extra ingredients that made it surprisingly refreshing and super hydrating on a warm fall day: apple and lemon.
And, I didn’t drink it instead of a meal or to ‘detox’ my body or because I’m doing some new ridiculous diet (um, nooooo thank you)…I just drank it because it was surprisingly delicious. Maybe you’ll think so too?
If you have a juicer, just pop a whole head of celery (with all those leafy greens still on top!), 1 apple, and a whole, peeled lemon in and let it do its thing. If you don’t, you can roughly chop them all (peel the lemon first), pop them into your blender or food processor with a cup or so of water, then strain through a fine mesh strainer, really pressing to get all the liquid out of the pulp. Prepare. To. Be. Hydrated.
SMALL BATCH DOUBLE CHOCOLATE COOKIES
Not even exaggerating when I say I’ve made these cookies 15 times this month. Yes, that is essentially every other day. We’ve been on a major cookie kick and these ones are just so easy and satisfying.
No, I do not have any regrets.
As I tend to do, I’ve baked a million variations using different nut/seed butters, flours, and types of chocolate, so it’s safe to say you really can’t mess these up.
If you’re craving a soft, tender, warm, gooey chocolate cookie after dinner tonight but don’t want to make a big batch of cookies, I highly recommend these!
MERLY JEAN JACKET
This month I discovered the jean jacket of my dreams. It’s faded, distressed has actual pockets, is soft but still thick, and is made by a woman-owned company dedicated to empowering women artisans in the U.S. and beyond. Oh, it’s also shipped in compostable packaging and their return process is SO easy, should you find yourself with the wrong size. I’m wearing a medium and love the fit!
This is definitely an investment piece, but one I was missing in my closet and can see myself wearing forever. You can usually find a discount code on their instagram account, or by signing up for their email list (that’s what I did!). Check it out here if you’re also in the market for jean jacket!
That’s it! September flew by so quickly that I seriously am surprised that I had anything to share besides the milk frother (for real though, I’m obsessed and about to go make myself a hot chocolate right now). Here’s to a slower October!
XO,
Chelsea
